WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Please refer to the gear list on this page. You are expected to bring proper clothing items and proper climbing hardware such as crampons, ice axe, helmet, harness etc. Should you have any questions regarding clothing layers, please contact us. If you rent gear from us, we will bring it with us and distribute that on July 17th. You can also rent gear from Whittaker Mountaineering in Ashford. They are only minutes down the road. There is a gear shop in Ashford for any last minute needs. We will supply a lightweight, alpine style, two-person tent for the climb.
We will provide first aid kits, shared group gear, tents, ropes and other technical equipment as needed.
We do not provide food. Please plan to bring your own food for your adventure. You will need 3 mountain dinners and 3 mountain breakfasts. Instead of lunch, we just eat snacks throughout the day.
Proper training plays a big factor in your success and enjoyment during this climb. Mt. Rainier is very strenuous. Please arrive in top-top shape. Months of cross training will be your ticket to success. Training can include running, hiking, hill or stair climbs with a heavy pack and long days spent in the mountains. Focus on legs, core, back and cardio. Upper body strength is a bonus but does not directly translate to climbing big mountains.
GRATUITIES and OTHER COSTS
Our guides are highly trained and have logged countless hours in the backcountry gaining the experience and knowledge it requires to become a guide for NEM. A typical gratuity for a job well done is 15% or $20pp/guide/day.
Airfare, Transportation, National Park Entrance Fee (per car), and Food are not included in the cost of the trip. The night of lodging in Ashford after our summit attempt is also not included. We encourage you to book this VERY early as lodging in Ashford is tough to find at that time of year. We do not recommend driving back to Seattle after the summit attempt.
