AWC x NEM – North Cascades

WELCOME TO THE NEM COMMUNITY!
Thank you for choosing Northeast Mountaineering! Together, NEM and AWC are looking forward to an unforgettable adventure to the North Cascades. We strive to give you the best climbing experience possible. We will work hard to make your time with us a success from start to finish!

WHEN AND WHERE TO MEET YOUR GUIDES
Unless you are flying with us, you will meet your guides and the rest of the team on August 4th at the Hotel [TBD] in Seattle, Washington. Please plan to arrive by 2PM at the latest. We will conduct a full gear check and head to our welcome reception at Two Beers Brewing. The night of August 4th is included in the cost of your trip. We have secured hotel rooms based on double occupancy.

ITINERARY

August 4: Arrival into Seattle, WA. Welcome reception at Two Beers Brewing in Seattle. Enjoy a good nights rest at the hotel.

August 5: Today, we will begin preparations and enjoy our first hike. During the 3 hour drive to the campground in North Cascades National Park, we will stop for groceries. Arriving by 1pm we will set up camp and embark on a short evening hike.

August 6: Hike to Hidden Lake Lookout Trail which is 8 miles RT (out and back). A beautiful start through the forest, the trail soon opens up to sprawling meadows. After several switchbacks, the trail breaks into the alpine, climbing steadily to a pass where we will enjoy our first views of Hidden Lake. A short, steep climb brings us to the spectacular lookout complete with a cabin and million dollar views.

August 7: Sightseeing day reserved for exploring the sights and sounds of North Cascades National Park including Diablo Lake.

August 8: We will begin the drive back to Seattle and say our goodbyes. Afternoon flights can be booked.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Please refer to the gear list on this page. You are expected to bring proper clothing items. Should you have any questions regarding clothing layers, please contact us. If you rent gear from us, we will bring it with us and distribute that on August 4th. There is an REI in Seattle should you need any supplies.

We will provide first aid kits, stoves and tents. Feel free to bring your own however. Please let us know if you wish to bring your own stove or tent.

We do not provide food. Please plan to bring your own food for your adventure. You will need 3 camping dinners and 3 camping breakfasts. Instead of lunch, we just eat snacks throughout the day.

TRAINING
Proper training plays a big factor in your success and enjoyment during trip. Please arrive in tip-top shape. Months of cross training will be your ticket to success. Training can include running, hiking, hill or stair climbs with a heavy pack and long days spent in the mountains. Focus on legs, core, back and cardio. Upper body strength is a bonus but does not directly translate to hiking.

GRATUITIES and OTHER COSTS
Your guides are highly trained and have logged countless hours in the backcountry gaining the experience and knowledge it requires to become a guide for AWC. A typical gratuity for a job well done is 15% or $20pp/guide/day.

Airfare (unless otherwise arranged), and Food are not included in the cost of the trip.
